Summary
Accidents are bad. But Geico is good - for car insurance. That's the message Geico wanted to get across in these four 30-second spots for a campaign to promote its auto repair express; emergency road service; onsite windshield replacement; and 24-hour claim service.
The four spots - Parking Deck, Pothole, Tree Limb, and Fender
Bender - are irresistibly funny thanks to The Mill NY's clever and
subtle anthropomorphising of a couple of garage pipes, a pothole,
two tree branches, and a car fender, all of whom damage a vehicle
then try to talk their way out of trouble in marvellously
characterful and perfectly synched voices.
'It was a fine line between realism and comedy,' says The Mill
NY Flame artist Gavin Wellsman, who worked closely with the Martin
Agency's creatives and Smuggler director Randy Krallman to strike
just the right balance. 'The characters have to come alive through
the CG mouths. If we'd pushed them too far they would have become
too cartooney.'
