Mill+ director David Lawson partnered with Riot Games once more to craft the stunning launch trailer for VALORANT's highly awaited debut on consoles!
It was an incredible opportunity to help Launch VALORANT on console. we loved the idea of choreographing action across multiple different battles in different maps with a massive cast of Characters but with a through line of Jett's battle with her Omega self.
Director, David Lawson
Riot's IP and characters are so well defined, that it was extremely fun for us to craft situations we haven‘t seen these agents in and events that have never been shown cinematically before - pushing the boundaries while staying true to the look and style of the brand. The repeat collaboration with our counterparts at Riot and in house with our Director of the film, David Lawson, was so seamless that it was a joy to spitball ideas back and forth and go through several iterations of a shot to wittle down the perfect version of what we wanted to show in the final piece.
We worked both in studio and remotely, and had a virtual suite set up that allowed all artists the option to hop in and out of to discuss any ideas, thus maximizing creative input and collaboration from everyone. Our strong teamwork made the combination of concept art, matte paintings, CG renders, design elements, FX and 2D animations, seamless, and result in a film we‘re massively proud of.

This fully CG cinematic in Riot's art-style is a blast to create . It's a unique and very cool aesthetic to achieve, and I could feel that my own enthusiasm was matched by the excitement of the team as we saw the project come together in this style. As a team leader, it's amazing to bring together The Mill's international team to create something so awesome. It's also fun to solve unique creative challenges that a cinematic of this scale presents. For Riot, focusing extra emphasis on our previs payed extra dividends throughout the course of the show. It was a very rewarding project to be a part of.
