Case Study

Škoda’s ‘Be More’ campaign, launching the all-new Elroq electric car, is a perfect example of what happens when a great creative idea meets top-tier craftsmanship.

Directed by Dom&Nic, with FCB, Outsider, and The Mill bringing it to life, the campaign features a series of stunning full-CG films packed with beautifully detailed creature work. But it doesn’t stop there—alongside the hero films, there’s a whole suite of social content, from driver perspectives and slick cutdowns to unique edits and eye-catching stills, all designed to make an impact. The team delivered an initial reveal film, to kick off the campaign and a wicked, 45 second compilation edit, featuring three of the five hero films.

Brief

FCB London approached The Mill with a unique and visually rich brief, built around powerful metaphors that connect the Škoda Elroq’s key features to the natural world.

The idea was to draw striking parallels between the car’s innovations and nature’s most fascinating abilities: the rapid speed of a hummingbird drinking nectar and gathering energy represents the car’s fast-charging capabilities, while a raccoon’s night vision reflects its advanced LED Matrix beam headlights. A snowdrop generating heat to bloom through frozen ground, mirrors the Elroq’s ability to preheat for peak performance in cold weather, and a chipmunk’s impressive ability to store food highlights the car’s generous storage space. Even the movement of drifting clouds serves as a metaphor for the vehicle’s long-range capability.

Each of these metaphors comes to life across five fully CG films, presenting one of the campaign’s biggest creative and technical challenges—how to craft these seamless, immersive visuals within the controlled environment of an all-green studio space.

Approach

Bringing these metaphors to life in a single green studio space required a thoughtful approach to lighting and compositing. The team crafted each scene to exist in its own distinct world, ensuring every element felt immersive and visually compelling.

For the animation team, the research phase was one of the most exciting aspects of the project. The vast diversity of the animal kingdom provided endless inspiration, offering fresh and unexpected ways to convey emotion and enhance storytelling.

One of the key challenges in creature animation is striking the right balance—avoiding excessive humanization while still creating characters that connect with audiences. To maintain authenticity, we studied real-life animal behaviors, using subtle body language and natural movement to bring each metaphor to life. This approach not only grounded the animation in realism but also allowed the film’s humor and charm to shine through in a way that felt both organic and engaging.

The final result is a mix continuous innovation and dedication—an achievement that feels truly epic!
